KEYS TO DRIVING QLD

This publication is the booklet you will need to read before taking your PrepL theory test online (the test you need to pass prior to be issued with a learner licence). This can be read online or downloaded to your files. You can also purchase these booklets at your local Department of Transport. 
Your keys to driving in Queensland is a free online publication for Queensland drivers that combines important information about the Queensland driver licensing system and the Queensland road rules. Your keys to driving in Queensland is not just for learner drivers – it is important for everyone who uses the road, regardless of their level of experience, to read the book to update their knowledge of the road rules and road safety.​ Cost for the PrepL test is $27.75.

DOWNLOAD THE LOGBOOK APP

When you get your learner licence you will be given a Queensland Learner Logbook and information about how to download the free Queensland Learner Logbook app so you can start recording your driving experience.​If you are under 25 you will need to record at least 100 hours, including 10 hours of night time driving. ​(Note that night time driving with a driving instructor does not count as triple hours)

The Queensland Learner Logbook app is free to download from the App Store and Google Play. 
If you prefer, you can obtain a hardcopy logbook from the Department of Transport. ​For further information click the "CLICK HERE' button below. 

PREP L THEORY TEST

Before you can apply for a car (C class) learner licence in Queensland, you will need to successfully complete PrepL (an online theory test via the Department of Transport) You can enrol in PrepL if you are at least 15 years and 11 months old. This will give you time to work through PrepL, so that you will be eligible to get your learner licence on your 16th birthday.

HAZARD PERCEPTION TEST

Click on the 'CLICK HERE' button to go straight to the Department of Transport page to access the online Hazard Perception Test. This can be undertaken after a learner licence has been held for at least 6 months and must be taken prior to the practical driving test.  ​The hazard perception tests are an online test containing a series of high-quality 3D computer generated clips. It is recommended that the test be completed on a laptop or desktop computer, due to the bigger screen. However, you can take the test on any other compatible device. If you are doing the test on your mobile, you will need to be able to clearly see the screen.To pass the hazard perception test you need to demonstrate your ability to identify hazards through watching and reacting to situations. The hazards you will be tested on are based on the most challenging for novice drivers and riders.​Cost payable to the Department of Transport is $39.95

BOOK YOUR PRACTICAL DRIVING TEST

Your driving examiner will give you instructions before you start your test. You must listen carefully to the instructions and ask questions about anything you don’t understand. After the test has started, the driving examiner can’t answer questions that may influence your driving performance.Your driving examiner will give you tasks to perform during the test. You must complete these tasks while following the road rules. The driving examiner will not ask you to do anything illegal or unsafe.If your test vehicle is fitted with blind-spot mirrors, you must still look over your shoulder to make sure there are no vehicles in either blind spot.Click on the 'CLICK HERE' link below to access the online booking page in order to book your practical driving test.
